EXT Paideia seminar

Inline image 4On Tuesday the year 5&6 Extension group had a paideia seminar, It was our 3rd one this year! The topic we had to talk about was "Is being civilise such a good thing". Our Paideia seminar began and Amira was first to speak. I think that I could do better on the next seminar because this seminar was kind of hard because I didn't know when to talk and the topic was kind of hard to me. I only spoke 5 or 6 times but I think that is a good thing some people only talked once or twice. I was really nervous because i thought My answer was going to be wrong but then I remembered that there are no right or wrong answers in the paideia seminar. Luckily I was prepared with a paragraph that I wrote about what civilisation means to me. overall I think that i did good and I think I did better than term one and maybe Just the same as term 2's Paideia seminar.

Task description: This is my reflection of my term 3 Extension Paideia seminar. It has my feelings and has what I did and what I could do better. I think I did really good and I hope I do better next time.

Paideia seminar Reflection

Have you ever had a paideia seminar? Well the year 5&6 extension group did. We got into groups of two and my partner was Bethan. We had this doc filled with all kinds of perspectives we could choose from. Bethan and I chose 4 and the others just stuck with one perspective. The question we had to answer/ and argue for the paideia seminar was… “Is it important to keep our humanity, emotions, critical thinking, and empathy or doesn’t it matter if we live in a wired world where we are individuals, not a community?
What is the best or worst case scenario of living in a world, where we don’t communicate face to face?”

In our paideia seminar i think I did more talking than what i did in term 1’s seminar. I was really scared but I actually talked a lot.  I was surprised when the people who talked a lot last time didn’t talk a lot this time.  I think that the term 2 paideia seminar was my best one. everybody was talking and if someone didn’t talk we’d always make time for them to talk. I loved it because everybody piggy banked on what someone was saying. I think we all did not want robots to be like a slave or even to rule the WORLD! If we did have them and you had a kid who would look after them? The robot can’t because he can’t get in the water to bathe the baby or even make food.

It was also about the production we performed “ Back in da day” because it is a time travel play and it was about all the technology changing and how they changed. I also loved the paideia seminar because of the Lollies! I think that doing the production boosted my confidence and i think that is why i talked a lot more. I think i could do better next time by listening more and trying to piggy bank on other people's ideas.

Dear Prime Minister John Key,

Kia ora my name is Naomi and I am a year 5 at Pt England School. This letter is about pollution and plastic waste getting thrown into the drain leading to the sea. The problem about pollution and plastic waste is that this rubbish is ending up down the drain. It can affect the fishes in the sea. It can also affect our birds because they go down to the sea and look for fishes but they might see plastic waste and might think it is a fish and could eat it and that can make them die. With all the fish gone fishing can no longer be a hobby. People won’t be able to eat fish n chips.

I think that you should make a law saying “ There should be no one ever to litter in the drains or they will have to pay”. They might listen but here is another idea we can have a event like a competition whoever fills three bags of rubbish gets a prize or something like that. Or we can have more workers to clean out the drain and also John Key I think they should get more money.

The workers should get more money because they are cleaning the rubbish that was going to the sea. The rubbish in the sea can also make our water dirty and with dirty water no one wants to drink it and with no water we will not live. So we need to get all of the garbage in the sea out or we would not live.

Your’s sincerely,

Naomi

my maori warrior

His heart was pounding as the giant moa chased after him. He felt like he couldn’t move his legs. But luckily he  managed to escape the moa. In the cold forest the Maori warrior still heard the moas voice screeching loudly.  The warrior had interesting tattoos covering his body. His clothes were made with only leaves and feathers. Soon he became so tired and went to sleep on the forest floor.

In the morning the warrior was woken up by a familiar sound. It was the moa. “How did it find me?” he said. It had followed his footprints and used its sense of smell. Once again the warrior ran through the forest. Looking back he could see that the moa was getting closer and closer. His heart was pounding like never before. Running for his life he took a big breath of air before he jumped off a cliff and into the ocean.

Landing in the ocean the warrior struggled to get back to shore. As he stepped out of the water he found some leaves and dried himself clean. But the leaves were poisonous! “OH no!” he screamed before he fainted. After several hours, the warrior woke up to find several moa surrounding him. He felt frightened and quickly stood up. He tried running left, right, up and down but he kept on getting knocked to the middle by the moa.

Suddenly the warrior realised that he was surrounded by mother nature. He thought to himself “I should fight back!”. At that instant the warrior ran to a tree and broke down a sharp branch and started to point it at the moa. He swung the branch like a taiaha. But the warrior only killed one moa. The rest ran back into the forest. The warrior was lucky to survive.

40 hour famine writing

I am taking part in this years 40 hour famine and I am in the yellow team with one the edge person and one of the smash person as my team leader. Why we are doing this is to donate for the people in Syria and we had to do the 20 hour famine because we are only kids in primary. What i've been up to so far is just playing in the hall, playing basketball, and doing karaoke, my favourite part was when we had to do our group item my team came last but who cares it was only year 5's creating the dance and one year 8 dancing with us.
