Naomi and Amelia's treasure island

map
What are the co-ordinates of these objects?
(3,2) Castle (6,2) Windmill (8,4) Apple Trees (6,4) Bin (8,5) Sailboat

Write down what you can see at the co-ordinates given below:
(7,5) Elephant
(9,5) Island
(5,3) Gate
(2,3) Hill
(7,1) Tree
(3,3) Tower
(4,2) Wall
(1,1) Octopus

The words can be used in a special way to find the coordinates of the buried treasure. Can you work out where it is?
EIGHT TWO (8,2) Light House

Extension: Could you give directions to the octopus so it can get to the elephant?
Go north (1,5) then go east (1,7)

Task description:
Today Is the first day of term 4 and to start the term off room 4 maths went over work that we did last term so we are just refreshing our memories. Today we had to get the coordinates and try and find the hidden treasure in the graph, there were heaps of questions but we managed to solve them all. we had help from Mrs stone to solve some of these question.

Naomi Maths work

WALT Apply our mathematical knowledge in a range of context

Task description:
This week we have been going over math that we have learnt last term. we had to figure out a variety of questions and we had to answer them. some of these questions were harder than others but I still managed to push through them. I had help from Mrs stone and a classmate.

Building blocks

Task description:
today room 4 maths were learning was to calculate volume and this is how we learnt that. this task was about making boxes out blocks and there were 4 boxes we had to make, we also needed to make a bigger box to fit all of the boxes combined. box 1: 4m x 4m x 6m  Box 2: 2m x 8m x 6m box 3: 6m x 6m x 4m Box 4 2m x 6m x 4m. the box that could fit all of the boxes in it was 13 x 8 x 6. The volume of this big box was 624.

Maths today!

Maths:

Fractions Finale

What is ½ the same as? 2/4

What is ⅓ the same as? 2/6

What is 2/4 the same as? 1/2

What is ⅙ the same as? 2/12

I want to add ½ with ¼. First I change ½ to  2/4  then I add the other quarter to make 3/4

⅓ + ⅙. ⅓ = 5/6

¼ + ⅛.  ¼ = 9/8

How can I change ⅔ into sixths ( 4/6)?

How can I change ⅔ into twelfths ( 5/12)

⅓ + ¼ = 7/12

⅓ = 2/6  ¼ =2/8

⅓ + ⅕ = 8/15

⅓ = 2/6  ⅕ = 2/10

⅙ + ⅛ = 14/48

⅙ = 2/12   ⅛ =2/16

⅓ + 1/7 = 10/21

¼ + ⅕ =9/20

⅓ + ⅖ =8/15

1/10 + 1/100=110/1000

1/10 + 1/1000= 101/1000

3D clay shapes

yesterday room 4 made 3D shapes out of clay. the ingredients we used was clay, water, a wooden knife and a plastic ruler to get the faces smooth. Me and my partner (Amelia) made a 3D hexagon, we wanted to make a complex shape so we chose a hexagon. everybody else made a cube and a 3D circle. the reason why we were making the shapes were because our school is running out of maths equipment and we thought it would be fun to make some of the 3D shapes. Questions for the little kids: how many faces does this shape have? dow you know what shape this is? how many vertices and edges does this shape have? This hexagonal prism and it has 8 faces 18 edges and 12 vertices.
