Day 1 SLJ activity 2

Activity 2: North and South [4 points]
The country of New Zealand is made up of two main islands – the North Island and the South Island. Approximately 77% of the New Zealand population live in the North Is
land. Many of these people (including our Summer Learning Journey design team) live in Auckland city. Auckland is a great place to live with lots of amazing parks, beautiful waterways and stunning scenery to enjoy. It is also a busy, vibrant city with many cafes, museums, galleries and theatres to visit. I feel lucky to call Auckland my ‘hometown.’
Now it is time to think about your hometown. What is special about where you live? On your blog, describe your hometown. Be sure to include lots of describing words (adjectives) in your post.
-----------
Auckland, New Zealand. What a wonderful place. All of the amazing suburbs within the city. All the many cafes, movie theaters, museums and also the great Sky tower. I am really happy to call Auckland, New Zealand my home because it is where I grew up and I just the community in Auckland and also the great scenery's. it is special to me because we were the first to let woman vote alongside with men, but also it is special to me because I feel safe in this environment and community. Last but not least, I love the people in Auckland Because the are really Nice and very helpful.

This task was apart of the SLJ (summer learning journey) Programme. this week is about A PLACE TO STAND. this activity was about what i think about my hometown which is Auckland, New Zealand. This was really easy for me because I really life my hometown and it was really fun to share it with you guys.

Day 1 SLJ Activity 1

Ahhhhhh the start of school holidays, Feeling sad to leave 2018. anyways its the start of the holidays and what i am going to be doing throughout the holidays is to learn. it may seem boring to some people but I just want to improve my learning from this year make progress for next year.

DAY 1: In the Beginning...

Activity 1: The Legend of New Zealand [4 points]

According to Māori mythology, much of Aotearoa New Zealand was formed when Māui, a powerful demigod, fished it out of the sea. Legend has it that Māui created a magical fish hook from the jawbone of his grandmother and that one day he took his hook, boarded a boat, and rode out into the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Once at sea, he threw his magical hook into the water and caught a fish. This ‘fish’ was actually the North Island of New Zealand! In honour of this legend, the North Island of New Zealand is sometimes referred to as Te Ika a Māui or ‘Māui’s fish’ and the South Island of New Zealand is sometimes referred to as Te Waka a Māui or ‘Māui’s canoe’.

To learn more cool facts about New Zealand, check out the Tourism NZ website. Read the fun facts posted on the website and choose your ‘Top 3.’ On your blog, post your ‘Top 3 Fun Facts’ about NZ in your own words.
Out of all the amazing and fun related facts there were these are my top three:
1.  It was the first major nation to have universal suffrage. In 1893 all male and female citizens are legally allowed to vote. so this means that we were the first to let men and woman vote. I was really amazed at this fact because New Zealanders was the first to basically clarify equality to everyone.
2.The Auckland City Sky Tower is the tallest freestanding structure in the Southern Hemisphere at 328 meters high. so basically its saying that our Auckland sky tower is the tallest freestanding structure in the southern hemisphere!
3. This was the first country to have its three top positions of power held simultaneously by women; Prime Minister Helen Clark, Governor General Dame Silvia Cartwright and the Chief Justice Sian Elias. this means that us New Zealanders were the first to have not 1 but 3 top positions of power being run by women, Prime minster Helen Clark, Governor General Dame Silvia Cartwright and the chief Justice Sian Elias.

this task is apart of the SLJ (summer learning journey) and this week is about A PLACE TO STAND. My activity that I had to do today, was to go on a website look at all of the facts and comeback and pick three to summarize and post on my blog.

Sequel to francis brandywine

---------------------------------------------------
The original Francis brandywine story
video link
 Previously...
The boat was found on shore the next day, empty but for the journal. On those pages were her frantic jottings, all written in her distinctive handwriting, all but the last page. When the journal was found, that page was still wet, and on it were four words, looking as if they'd been written quickly, with a muddy finger. They said, "I did knock first."

My Sequel of francis brandywine:

Francis brandywine was never seen again. She has been missing  for about three years now. No one knows where she went, and her family and friends were very devastated to hear she had gone missing. Her journal was left on the boat after she went missing, with the words “I did Knock first” on it. Detective wiseman took the journal and the boat as evidence of the missing crime.
Detective wiseman took the boat to get it analysed and found out that there were 2 peoples handprints on the boat. But francis was the only person in the boat. Detective wiseman was curious of who was the person knocking. They were searching for the exact same handprints and found out that it was Latini ilaoa. Detective wiseman was shook because Mabel johnson tragically died drowning in the lake of Quetico.

She started to figure it out but the one thing she couldn’t get her head around was how did Mabel come back to life? Detective wiseman got a team of divers to go search the lake. The divers couldn’t believe their eyes. They saw lots of people that had gone missing a few  years ago including francis. They tried swimming back to shore but all the dead people underwater grabbed the divers legs and brought them down with them.
They were desperate for air but suddenly couldn’t breathe anymore. Detective Wiseman finally solved the mystery of Mabel Johnson and francis brandywine. A couple months later the quetico lake was banned and the francis brandywine case was solved. So everyone lived happily ever after… Or did they?!

Team building recount

The day arrived, when the yr 8’s left to go camp, and the year 7’s stayed at school. The year 8’s left and all the year 7’s were jumping with joy. The  year 7’s got to do team building! What is team building? Well it is 3 days of absolute fun! It pretty much is working together as a team and trying to get to know other people better. We had 6 groups and a score board. I was in the Blue Dogs (the blue team). There were a variety of activities but I am going to talk about 1 thing, how we failed at SLIME!

It was our first day doing team building and we had to do our rotations. It was our first thing to do. What was it? We were making SLIME!  Slimy, gooey, messy, those are all the words that explained what we were doing, and making. Slimy, gooey stuff that spilled everywhere, It was sticky, it was runny and it was gross!  We spilled it everywhere, not just on the table but also on the floor!

Some of us made slime and some of us didn’t, but it was because of the glue. We followed all of the instructions. But we still failed. We wondered why? But that's when we realized that the glue  that we used was the wrong one. So we wasted most of the ingredients to try and help, but the more we put in ingredients the more of a clean up we had to do later. everything was on the floor My group had to stay and clean up. That was my least favourite thing about the whole 3 days. But it was actually fun.

Overall I would say that I had a fun time. It was also kind of funny how much mess 1 group can make in 30 mins. Everything spilled on the ground and mostly everywhere but we all had fun and all worked as a team and cleaned up the mess that we made. So from my perspective I think that it was fun,it was a good way to spend time with our friends and I would definitely do it again!
