Day 1 activity 3 SLJ

Activity 3: Ice, Ice Baby [10 points]
Antarctica is the world’s coldest continent. Even though it is made up of ice, it is also the driest continent in the world. In fact, it hasn’t rained there for nearly 2 million years! It is home to many animals such as whales, seals, birds, and fish. There are no permanent human residents (people who live there all the time) in Antarctica, however scientists do visit and stay in Antarctica for a while to study it.

This year the airline, Air New Zealand, filmed their safety video in Antarctica. They used some fabulous actors from Hornby Primary School in Christchurch. Just like on aeroplanes, we also need to keep safe and be smart online. We need to think about the type of information we are sharing online, who we are sharing information with, and how to have a positive digital footprint.

On your blog, make a copy of this footprint and, inside the footprint, explain how you create a positive, digital footprint. What do you do to stay smart online?
------------------------------
Task description: this is My 3rd activity for day 1 and it was about how to leave a positive footprint. In my photo just above is about how i leave a positive footprint.

Day 1 SLJ activity 2

Activity 2: North and South [4 points]
The country of New Zealand is made up of two main islands – the North Island and the South Island. Approximately 77% of the New Zealand population live in the North Is
land. Many of these people (including our Summer Learning Journey design team) live in Auckland city. Auckland is a great place to live with lots of amazing parks, beautiful waterways and stunning scenery to enjoy. It is also a busy, vibrant city with many cafes, museums, galleries and theatres to visit. I feel lucky to call Auckland my ‘hometown.’
Now it is time to think about your hometown. What is special about where you live? On your blog, describe your hometown. Be sure to include lots of describing words (adjectives) in your post.
-----------
Auckland, New Zealand. What a wonderful place. All of the amazing suburbs within the city. All the many cafes, movie theaters, museums and also the great Sky tower. I am really happy to call Auckland, New Zealand my home because it is where I grew up and I just the community in Auckland and also the great scenery's. it is special to me because we were the first to let woman vote alongside with men, but also it is special to me because I feel safe in this environment and community. Last but not least, I love the people in Auckland Because the are really Nice and very helpful.

Task description:
This task was apart of the SLJ (summer learning journey) Programme. this week is about A PLACE TO STAND. this activity was about what i think about my hometown which is Auckland, New Zealand. This was really easy for me because I really life my hometown and it was really fun to share it with you guys.

Day 1 SLJ Activity 1

Ahhhhhh the start of school holidays, Feeling sad to leave 2018. anyways its the start of the holidays and what i am going to be doing throughout the holidays is to learn. it may seem boring to some people but I just want to improve my learning from this year make progress for next year.

DAY 1: In the Beginning...

Activity 1: The Legend of New Zealand [4 points]

According to Māori mythology, much of Aotearoa New Zealand was formed when Māui, a powerful demigod, fished it out of the sea. Legend has it that Māui created a magical fish hook from the jawbone of his grandmother and that one day he took his hook, boarded a boat, and rode out into the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Once at sea, he threw his magical hook into the water and caught a fish. This ‘fish’ was actually the North Island of New Zealand! In honour of this legend, the North Island of New Zealand is sometimes referred to as Te Ika a Māui or ‘Māui’s fish’ and the South Island of New Zealand is sometimes referred to as Te Waka a Māui or ‘Māui’s canoe’.

To learn more cool facts about New Zealand, check out the Tourism NZ website. Read the fun facts posted on the website and choose your ‘Top 3.’ On your blog, post your ‘Top 3 Fun Facts’ about NZ in your own words.
Out of all the amazing and fun related facts there were these are my top three:
1.  It was the first major nation to have universal suffrage. In 1893 all male and female citizens are legally allowed to vote. so this means that we were the first to let men and woman vote. I was really amazed at this fact because New Zealanders was the first to basically clarify equality to everyone.
2.The Auckland City Sky Tower is the tallest freestanding structure in the Southern Hemisphere at 328 meters high. so basically its saying that our Auckland sky tower is the tallest freestanding structure in the southern hemisphere!
3. This was the first country to have its three top positions of power held simultaneously by women; Prime Minister Helen Clark, Governor General Dame Silvia Cartwright and the Chief Justice Sian Elias. this means that us New Zealanders were the first to have not 1 but 3 top positions of power being run by women, Prime minster Helen Clark, Governor General Dame Silvia Cartwright and the chief Justice Sian Elias.
Task description:
this task is apart of the SLJ (summer learning journey) and this week is about A PLACE TO STAND. My activity that I had to do today, was to go on a website look at all of the facts and comeback and pick three to summarize and post on my blog.

Astria game thoughts

A student in another school has recently blogged that:
“Students don’t learn much playing this game called Astria – Countdown to Impact: Their time could be better spent doing other things”.
Do you agree, disagree or partly agree/disagree?

Blog about what you think using evidence from the game to backup your views.
-------------------
Today we had a visit from Another Naomi From the university of Auckland and she has showed us a new game called Astria. My job is to disagree with the statement above or to agree with it. I honestly Agree and disagree I agree because most of game is all about astroids and more. also you just giving your opinion. I also disagree with this statement because your giving your thoughts about what you are reading. Like a test, but much more fun. So that is my thoughts about the astria game.

Sequel to francis brandywine

---------------------------------------------------
The original Francis brandywine story
video link
 Previously...
The boat was found on shore the next day, empty but for the journal. On those pages were her frantic jottings, all written in her distinctive handwriting, all but the last page. When the journal was found, that page was still wet, and on it were four words, looking as if they'd been written quickly, with a muddy finger. They said, "I did knock first."
___________________________________
My Sequel of francis brandywine:

Francis brandywine was never seen again. She has been missing  for about three years now. No one knows where she went, and her family and friends were very devastated to hear she had gone missing. Her journal was left on the boat after she went missing, with the words “I did Knock first” on it. Detective wiseman took the journal and the boat as evidence of the missing crime.
Detective wiseman took the boat to get it analysed and found out that there were 2 peoples handprints on the boat. But francis was the only person in the boat. Detective wiseman was curious of who was the person knocking. They were searching for the exact same handprints and found out that it was Latini ilaoa. Detective wiseman was shook because Mabel johnson tragically died drowning in the lake of Quetico.

She started to figure it out but the one thing she couldn’t get her head around was how did Mabel come back to life? Detective wiseman got a team of divers to go search the lake. The divers couldn’t believe their eyes. They saw lots of people that had gone missing a few  years ago including francis. They tried swimming back to shore but all the dead people underwater grabbed the divers legs and brought them down with them.
They were desperate for air but suddenly couldn’t breathe anymore. Detective Wiseman finally solved the mystery of Mabel Johnson and francis brandywine. A couple months later the quetico lake was banned and the francis brandywine case was solved. So everyone lived happily ever after… Or did they?!

this task was about writing a sequel to the original Francis brandywine. Room 1 literacy simply watched the video and with our creative minds we made a sequel to the original video.

Satire writing || School Is just the best!||

Warning what you are about to read is not true. Again it is not true! In writing we are doing satire So this is my attempt to it. Also read it in a sarcastic way to understand.

School is just the Best!

Don’t you just love school? All the teachers giving out hard work and having to finish it by the end
of the week. I just love that! Also only having a short amount of time to eat, so I get home and I’m
starving. Mann I wish I could just live at school! I think that school is amazing and Not like a kid
prison at all! School for me is like another donald trump, because everyone loves him . I  Also
love Doing homework because it is my favourite thing to do when I’m not at school, not like I got
any other things to do.  Whenever I have trainings or family dinners I definitely finish My work after.
Home work is the best! There is nothing in the world that I would want to do except my homework.
The one thing that I hate the most about school is… Lunchtime! All the kids smiling, laughing, playing
and having fun. “ARGGHHH DISGUSTING!” I just wished we had no breaks in school.
Overall School is The best!

Task description:

In writing class today I had to attempt to write a satire writing.
My topic was about school. In this piece of writing I am lying, and that is the whole part about satire.
I hope you enjoy my piece of writing overall.

Move Ya' Body

today the whole of team 5 performed in front of the whole block. We were performing our new skill that we have been practicing for 4 weeks. Rooms 1,2,3,4 and 5 had to perform. each of us did a performance and it was amazing, getting to see everything that people have been learning. I saw juggling, cultural dancing and even UNI-CYCLING. My group learnt how to shuffle but because everyone was  disagreeing and arguing we didn't get that much shuffling done but luckily we saved our dance by putting in some hip hop moves. we all have a workbook and through out the weeks we have been filling it out, But I don't have week 1,2 and 3 done yet so Here is my week 4 reflection:

Title:all about my weight

Copy and paste Lyrics of the well known song in the column below
Start writing your lyrics below. Make sure the rhyme scheme is the same
Because you know I'm all about that bass,
'Bout that bass,

no treble

I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass,

no treble

I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass,

no treble

I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass

Yeah it’s pretty clear I ain’t no size 2

But  can shake it, shake it  like i’m supposed to do,

Cause I got that boom boom that all the boys chase

All the right junk and all the right places

I see the magazines,

Working that photoshops

Because you know I'm all about My weight,
'Bout My weight,

no trouble

I'm all 'bout My weight, 'bout my weight,

no trouble

I'm all 'bout my weight, 'bout my weight,

no trouble

I'm all 'bout my weight, 'bout my weight

Yeah it’s pretty clear, you should exercise ,
Because you can, you can live a longer life,

To lower the risks of having heart disease

you need to be fit and have agility

physical activity

Want to feel better? Then physical exercise is the right thing for you. This writing is going to tell you all about how to be physically exercise and what the benefits are for physical activity. Physical activity can help strengthening your muscles and having a lower risk of type 2 diabetes and cancer. staying fit and strong is way better than sitting at home and eating, so why don’t you exercise.

#1 Reducing deadly disease

Exercising can help develop muscles but can also prevent you from dying from a rare disease like cancer or type 2 diabetes. Eating healthy can exercise the brain because the more vitamins and protein you have in your body can help you think a lot better. Another way is to run around after you eat because if you eat and sit around then you might get obesity.
#2 loosing weight

If you are like most people you just want to exercise because you want to look better than what you looked like before. But if you actually wanted to live a longer life, you would exercise to avoid deadly diseases. I am a child so I don’t know that much from an adults perspective, but I think physical activity is better for the brain and for the body.
#3 Physical activity being fun

Physical activity is anything actually, If you are moving your body then u are physically moving. Dancing can be a physical activity, so you can actually make exercising fun. Sports can be another activity because your running and also its fun.
If you are someone lazy or not active, Or doesn’t want to get off the couch, then consider these ideas to live a longer life. Physical activity doesn’t have to be painful it can be fun and it can really help you in life, Just Believe!

Team building recount

The day arrived, when the yr 8’s left to go camp, and the year 7’s stayed at school. The year 8’s left and all the year 7’s were jumping with joy. The  year 7’s got to do team building! What is team building? Well it is 3 days of absolute fun! It pretty much is working together as a team and trying to get to know other people better. We had 6 groups and a score board. I was in the Blue Dogs (the blue team). There were a variety of activities but I am going to talk about 1 thing, how we failed at SLIME!

It was our first day doing team building and we had to do our rotations. It was our first thing to do. What was it? We were making SLIME!  Slimy, gooey, messy, those are all the words that explained what we were doing, and making. Slimy, gooey stuff that spilled everywhere, It was sticky, it was runny and it was gross!  We spilled it everywhere, not just on the table but also on the floor!

Some of us made slime and some of us didn’t, but it was because of the glue. We followed all of the instructions. But we still failed. We wondered why? But that's when we realized that the glue  that we used was the wrong one. So we wasted most of the ingredients to try and help, but the more we put in ingredients the more of a clean up we had to do later. everything was on the floor My group had to stay and clean up. That was my least favourite thing about the whole 3 days. But it was actually fun.

Overall I would say that I had a fun time. It was also kind of funny how much mess 1 group can make in 30 mins. Everything spilled on the ground and mostly everywhere but we all had fun and all worked as a team and cleaned up the mess that we made. So from my perspective I think that it was fun,it was a good way to spend time with our friends and I would definitely do it again!

----
Task description:
This task is A recount when the year 8's went to their leadership camp and the year 7's got left behind and did fun activity's. In this piece of writing I am talking about how My group made a mess and made something that was supposed to be slime.

Maths today!

Maths:

Fractions Finale

What is ½ the same as? 2/4

What is ⅓ the same as? 2/6

What is 2/4 the same as? 1/2

What is ⅙ the same as? 2/12

I want to add ½ with ¼. First I change ½ to  2/4  then I add the other quarter to make 3/4

⅓ + ⅙. ⅓ = 5/6

¼ + ⅛.  ¼ = 9/8

How can I change ⅔ into sixths ( 4/6)?

How can I change ⅔ into twelfths ( 5/12)

⅓ + ¼ = 7/12

⅓ = 2/6  ¼ =2/8

⅓ + ⅕ = 8/15

⅓ = 2/6  ⅕ = 2/10

⅙ + ⅛ = 14/48

⅙ = 2/12   ⅛ =2/16

⅓ + 1/7 = 10/21

¼ + ⅕ =9/20

⅓ + ⅖ =8/15

1/10 + 1/100=110/1000

1/10 + 1/1000= 101/1000

Fia Fia term 1

Fia Fia? what is Fia Fia? well fia fia is a cultural festival that pt England school has every second year. fia fia is a great way to boost other peoples confidence. it is also a great way to represent your culture and your style of dancing. Theres a variety of groups to perform in, and you can choose which one you want to be in. you can chose 1-3 groups.

On Thursday last term, we held our annual fia fia. I was in the kapa haka group, and we performed first. we performed 4 items. on thursday it was also the last day of the term and it was a great way to end term 1 2018. everybodys performance was amazing but i couldn't stay for the whole entire thing, because it was raining.  but fortunately i could watch it from home on the live stream that they were streaming from the night. we held our fia fia on our school grounds, we put the stage on the field. overall I personally loved fia fia night because i got to see all the other groups perform.

3D clay shapes

yesterday room 4 made 3D shapes out of clay. the ingredients we used was clay, water, a wooden knife and a plastic ruler to get the faces smooth. Me and my partner (Amelia) made a 3D hexagon, we wanted to make a complex shape so we chose a hexagon. everybody else made a cube and a 3D circle. the reason why we were making the shapes were because our school is running out of maths equipment and we thought it would be fun to make some of the 3D shapes. Questions for the little kids: how many faces does this shape have? dow you know what shape this is? how many vertices and edges does this shape have? This hexagonal prism and it has 8 faces 18 edges and 12 vertices.

functions and for loops in code

Image result for for loopImage result for function

In extension today we are looking at functions and for loops in code, today I am going to be explaining what a function and for loop. for example a function is a piece of code that you can easily call over and over again. it includes the specific steps performed in the function. A loop is a repetitive action or command typically created with programming loops, or runs a block of code over and over for a set number times.also a for loop called also be used in dance moves like the whip and nae nae every time you repeat the dance move it is called a for loop.

How to save money

How to save Money: By Naomi penu

DO you know how to save money? Why is money so important to us? Do you want to learn how to save money? If so, you’ve come to the right place.

Firstly, you can start by using less power and less water usage. By using less power and water it saves you from paying a lot of money for the bills. This means you can make a limit of how long you can go on social media or how long you have a shower.

You can also save money by sticking to a budget.  For example you can have a limit on what you want to buy and how much you want to spend. Also sticking to a budget means you can’t spend over the amount you put down, Because you put it there for a reason. But don’t spend it on things you don’t need only spend it on the things you need.

Lastly you can get a savings account. You can have one spending account and one savings account by having a savings account you can put money in, BUT DON’T TAKE IT OUT! You can spend it but only for a good reason.

These are my points on how to save money and if you follow these steps then you might be able to save money. If these points helped you i would be really happy but if they don’t…. I’m just a kid!

task description: this task is an explanation writing task. we had to explain to the reader what we were going to do and also use some good connectives as well. this task was also about how to save money and it was really hard, for a person who usually spends all there allowance.

My visual Mihi

This is my visual mihi. what is a visual mihi? well a visual mihi is what you like and where you come from. A mihi is just the same thing but you say it a visual mihi is where you can see/draw your mihi.  My first one is my culture and my culture is Tongan and I didn't  do all of them because I have heaps. the second one is my family and I put them there because they are very special to me. the third one is about god and jesus because I believe in god so of course I would put the cross in and gods name. the fourth one, mostly everyone loves it.... FOOD! I put it there cause without it I wouldn't be living right now. but overall all of the things I put on represents me and what I believe in.

Me , Hinerangi and Bethan's swift playground work

Bethan’s review of commands and functions:
Commands and functions are very important things in code that lets start with commands. Commands are the instructions we use to control anything we want on the computer, ipad, or even your mobile phone but in our case we were using a little character called Byte. To control Byte we had to make him follow our commands when we put in more than one we made a sequence. A sequence is a group of commands put together to make a set of instructions. Functions are a group of commands put together to make one command so before we we had turn right we only had turnleft so that was when we added them together three times and created turnright.

Naomi’s review on the commands and functions:
My experience on swift playground was very easy on commands. But when we pasted commands we went to functions but I know functions are supposed to be helpful but it was kind of tricky. The only reason why it was tricky was because we were kind of used to commands and the function just messed up the code so we had to find a code that included the functions and our commands. But overall it was fun and had a lot of thinking involved.

Hinerangi’s review on code commands and functions:
These type of codings especially commands and functions was very hard but at the same time it was a bit easy. The commands and functions on swift playground can be a bit hard but it is very important that you understand it which is what myself and my teammates need to improve on. Command means a type of instruction which tells specifically what a computer, tablet and a phone needs to do. Overall it was awesome and fun especially having to work as a team / group, as well as having everyone communicating in these types of code.

first post for 2018

Image resultwelcome to 2018 and to start off the great year I learnt a lot in Maths and literacy. I have 6 lovely teachers in our team. in literacy we learnt the the real meaning of the treaty of Waitangi. but also we read a story called the wave and we had to answer a variety of questions but I did not quite finish it. In maths we learnt squared roots and    and we did a problem solving thing that evolved us using four 4's and using equations to get the numbers 1-20. if you do not know what I am talking about I am so sorry it is because i thought it was something fun to share But I couldn't explain it properly.    That is some of the stuff I learnt this week.

------------------------------------------------------------

Task description:
this is all about the start of the year and what I have learnt so far. it has been a great start of the year and this is my first post for 2018. I learnt a whole lot and I think that I am getting the hang of being in the intermediate block.
