WLJ day 4 activity 1

Activity 1: When you arrive in the south island, Curious Kiwi rents a shuttle van and drives your group from Picton (the town where the ferry dropped you off) to a beautiful beach on the opposite side of the island. The beach area is called Golden Bay and, at one end of the bay, is a stunning area called Farewell Spit.Farewell Spit has been in the news recently as a number of whales accidentally swam into the spit and became stuck on the beach. They were unable to swim back to the ocean because the water was too shallow. Many local people tried to save the ‘beached’ whales. Please follow this Farewell Spit link to learn more about what happened. On your blog, describe what the local people did to try and save the beached whales:
--------------------------------------------------------
Why are people doing this? Make it Stop! people are throwing their nets into the area called farewell spit. That beach is like a grave yard because of what people and their nets are doing. people throw their nets and the whales don't know what it is and they cannot see it. when they swim around they might get caught in the net. when they get caught they just end up on the beach.
How are people helping? when all the whales were on the beach some people just walking around saw it and went to go help them. They needing a lot more people but they managed to push them back into the water. They got heaps of towels from campers walking around and they poured water on them. some of the whales did not make it. even if the people got them into the water it might be too shallow.
---------------------------------------------------
Task description: I wrote 2 paragraphs about what people have done to the whales and what people have done to save the whales. this is day 4 and I will be posting my day 3 bonus activity later on today.

  1. Kia ora Naomi,

It was very sad to read about what happened to the whales in Farewell Spit, wasn't it? I felt terrible for the animals and for the people who were trying to save them. I wish that I could have done more to help but Farewell Spit is just too far from Auckland to be able to go on short notice.

I hope that the whales will not make the same mistake next year and will remain out at sea, swimming in the deep water!

Keep up the great effort with your blogging!!

    Cheers,
    Rachel
